About This Tour

This is a half-day return trip by private car from your London address to Windsor Castle in Berkshire, about 37 km west of central London. Your driver drops you near the castle's visitor entrance on Castle Hill, waits while you visit, and drives you back. Allow around five hours door to door.

Windsor Castle is a working royal residence run for visitors by Royal Collection Trust. A standard ticket covers the State Apartments, the precincts and St George's Chapel, and includes a multimedia guide. The local tourism service, Visit Windsor, suggests allowing two and a half to three hours inside.

The castle is normally open Thursday to Monday and closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. As a working palace it can also close on other days at short notice, so check the opening calendar on rct.uk before you book a date. St George's Chapel is closed to sightseers on Sundays, when it is open only for worship.

Tickets are not sold by MisterFare. Book a timed ticket on rct.uk; advance tickets are cheaper than buying on the day. Once you have an entry time, we set the pickup time so that you arrive with time to pass the airport-style security check.

Changing the Guard takes place at Windsor Castle on set days at about 11:00, but the schedule changes and the ceremony can be cancelled, including in bad weather. If it matters to you, check the Household Division calendar before choosing your date.

The trip suits small groups who prefer to avoid changing trains. Vehicles range from a saloon for three passengers to a van for eight.

Approximate plan for the day

  • Pickup in Central London — Collection from your address or hotel by private vehicle.
  • Drive to Windsor — Usually via the A4/M4; about 37 km. Traffic varies.
  • Windsor Castle — Drop-off near the visitor entrance on Castle Hill. Security check, then State Apartments, St George's Chapel (not on Sundays) and precincts using your own ticket.
  • Optional: Windsor town centre or Long Walk — Short time in town for lunch or a view along the Long Walk, if agreed in advance.
  • Return to Central London — Drop-off at your London address.

Timings are agreed with you when the booking is confirmed and depend on traffic and your chosen ticket times.
